Completing and publishing a piece of writing can be a grueling journey. It is probably best you do something else with your precious time, if you can. But if you can't - if you are relentlessly driven by this uniquely relentless muse - welcome! You're in good company.
At Chamisas I help you get those ideas out of your skull and into the world. Endless self-help articles and videos and podcasts make similar claims; I'm sure you've sampled your fill. These have their merits. Also meritorious: a real, breathing human who reads your work with her real human eyes. Someone to attune to your aesthetic sensibilities, curate inspiring craft readings, de-mystify the convoluted publishing industry, and help you see your project anew. In a contemporary landscape glutted with AI-slop - a world thrumming with the anonymous despair of suspicious, lonely souls - a trust-filled creative relationship is a small miracle.
My name is Emily Rose Soreghan. MFA in fiction from the Iowa Writers' Workshop, Fulbright Fellow, and winner of the Montana Prize in Creative Nonfiction. I am the daughter of two geologists, an enthusiastic (bad) two-stepper, and a lover of Magpies. I also love books. I love reading them, I love championing them, and I love editing them. Sometimes I don't love writing them but I do anyways because 47/100 times it's the best feeling in the world and that's gambling odds, baby!
I am available for every stage in your writing journey - from ideation to publishing. I specialize in short stories, literary fiction, and creative nonfiction (essays to popular science to memoir). I love working with everyone, but especially 1) specialists looking to synthesize their knowledge for a public audience 2) early-career fiction writers and 3) memoirists.
